In Germany, you need to have an air traffic control clearance or the approval of DFS Aviation Services if you would like to conduct the following activities within a 15-km radius of one of the airports controlled by DFS Aviation Services (Dortmund, Friedrichshafen, Karlsruhe Baden-Baden, Lahr, Magdeburg Cochstedt, Memmingen, Mönchengladbach, Niederrhein and Paderborn Lippstadt).
- Flying kites, model aircraft, drones, unmanned aircraft systems; moored balloons; the release of sky lanterns, balloons (toy balloons)
- Activities such as fireworks displays, photo and calibration flights, air shows, aerobatics with powered aircraft and sailplanes
A clearance for flying model aircraft and unmanned aircraft systems within the control zones under the responsibility of DFS Aviation Services is considered issued if the conditions of the German-language aviation publication NfL 1-1199-17 met.
The release of sky lanterns (Kongming lanterns, Chinese lanterns) in Germany needs to be approved by the local authorities before you can apply for a clearance.
Please send your application for one of the above-mentioned activities to one of the following e-mail addresses:
Please make your request in good time (at least two weeks in advance). Your request should include the type of activity, the location, the date, the time of day and your contact details so that we can process your request in time.
Further rules and regulations regarding permission requirements, approval of the landowner of the operating site, liability insurance and data protection rules remain unaffected by our issuing a clearance and must be complied with.
