On Tuesday, 14 May 2024, Christian Dorge Team Lead for cloud-based ATC Systems at DFS Aviation Services GmbH impressed the jury and participants at the\u00a0Cloud Native Conference 2024<\/a>, the Vogel IT Academy in Eppstein near Frankfurt am Main: His use-case of the cloud-based air navigation service system PHOENIX WebInnovation won the first place in the Native Rockstars Award 2024 in the “Technology Modernisation” category.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

PHOENIX WebInnovation is an innovative air traffic control system that operates entirely in the public cloud and thus represents a technological paradigm shift in the air traffic control industry. The system is a cloud-native product that is hosted on the Kubernetes platform of Berlin-based SysEleven GmbH<\/a>, a long-standing partner of DAS. At its core, PHOENIX WebInnovation offers a modern, intuitive radar screen, which is used to display the air situation, as well as an innovative electronic flight strip system for use in the tower. The tool is location- and hardware-independent and is operated via a public cloud and protected access.<\/p>\n

The system has already proven itself as an extended information tool at several smaller airports in recent years and a few days ago also reached the major milestone of actively acting as the main air traffic control system at an airport. On Monday, 13 May 2024, air traffic control at Memmingen Airport was switched to the PHOENIX WebInnovation system<\/a> and replaced the former PHOENIX system and paper flight strips.<\/p>\n

The Cloud Native Conference<\/a> has been organised by the Vogel IT Akademie of Vogel IT-Medien GmbH since 2022 and is aimed at experts, use cases and providers from the cloud native industry.<\/p>\n
