DFS Aviation Services (DAS) is conducting a feasibility study for air traffic control on the possible introduction of remote tower control applications. The aim of the consulting project is to create a sound strategic basis for decision-making on the future orientation of selected tower locations in Albania.
Various technical and operational solution options are being evaluated as part of the project. These include a conventional tower, a mobile tower, a remote tower system and a remote tower control centre that can serve several airports simultaneously and also function as a contingency facility.
In a second step, one of the options will be analysed in depth. In doing so, DAS will develop, among other things:
- the technical solutions for a possible remote tower system,
- possible operational applicability
- and the structure of a requirements document as a basis for a subsequent tender.
Finally, a cost-benefit analysis will be carried out to transparently present the economic and operational implications of a possible implementation.
The study is scheduled to run for around three to four months. The results will serve as a reliable basis for decision-making by Albcontrol for further strategic planning.

The consultation is manufacturer-independent and neutral, with the aim of identifying the most technically, operationally and economically viable solution for Albania.
