DFS Aviation Services (DAS) has advised Greenland Airports — Mittarfeqarfiit A/S, the Greenlandic airport operator, on preparations for the introduction of a remote and digital tower concept for its AFIS aerodromes. From 2026, Qaqortoq Airport will be controlled via a remote tower control (RTC) system from Frequentis.
As part of an intensive workshop, DAS provided support in the structured preparation of the transition from conventional aerodrome operations to digital AFIS operations. The focus was on developing best practices, lessons learned and robust safety cases as a basis for safe and efficient implementation.
Another focus was on designing the transition phase to ensure operational stability and safety standards at all times during the changeover.
In addition to the workshop format, visits were made to the two German remote tower centres. These provided practical insights into operational processes and enabled a direct exchange of experiences with experts from ongoing operations.
