DFS drone activities well received in China

18.06.2018 – A joint European/Chinese workshop on unmanned air traffic was held at the beginning of June in Shenzhen, China. At this event, Hans de Jong, safety and drone expert from DFS Aviation Services, held a talk on how Germany is accommodating drone operations into air traffic now and in the future.

The meeting of international drone experts took place in the city of Shenzhen in southeast China from 6 to 8 June. Dr Hans de Jong presented the ongoing and future activities concerning safe drone operations in German airspace. De Jong described the current legal situation in Germany and the activities carried out by DFS, including the development of a UAS traffic management system. In addition, he presented the DFS drone app. This tool provides drone pilots in Germany with information about restrictions to drone operations in force at their specific location. These activities received positive feedback from the participants.

The purpose of the EU China Drones Workshop is to provide a platform for exchanging experience of operational and technical developments and the regulatory environment in the European Union and China. This year, the workshop focused on mobile and cloud-based solutions as well as the SESAR initiative U-Space, which was launched in 2017. The workshop is part of the EU-China Aviation Partnership Project (www.eu-china-app.org/), a project financed by the EU focussing on promoting cooperation in aviation. The project is headed by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
