DFS Aviation Services will provide consultancy services to LPS for Remote Digital Towers, and the strategy for the integration of UTM in conventional and remote towers in Slovakia.
DFS Aviation Services (DAS) has been contracted by Letové prevádzkové služby (LPS), the Air Navigation Services Provider of Slovakia, for the provision of operational consultancy for a potential applicability of remote digital towers across the Slovakian Republic. The consultation also considers a strategy for the integration of UAS for conventional towers and for remote towers. The consultation will last until November 2022.
A team of Air Traffic Management experts from DFS Aviation Services with practical experience in both Remote Digital Towers (RDT) and integration of UAS will support LPS in the definition of the scope for RDT. Moreover, the development of a feasibility study for the RDT solution, the creation of the business case for RDT, and finally the drafting of the strategy towards the integration of UAS (covering both visual-line-of-sight (VLOS) and beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS)) within the LPS tower environment is part of the project.
With its ANSP background, DAS can rely on practical experience with cooperative and uncooperative UAS in Germany, having implemented procedures and measures at all ten DAS airports. The possibility of designing the new control center as a multi-remote tower from the outset is due to the companies’ experience with the remote tower centre (RTC) of DFS in Leipzig, and its very own RTC at Braunschweig airport which is currently being developed. The RTC concept will be optimized to integrate multiple airports in order to adopt it as a multi-remote approach and further reduce the cost of air traffic control.
“We are extremely pleased that LPS is trusting on our proven experience in both Remote Digital Towers and integration of UAS, and we look forward to kicking-off with our team of experts to help LPS experience too these successful concepts for the benefit of the Slovakian Republic”, says Andreas Pötzsch, Managing Director DAS.
“We are glad to have the opportunity to work with experts from DAS. We have a very challenging goal ahead of us, which we can achieve thanks to this cooperation. The successful integration of UAS and Remote Digital Tower will move LPS and Slovak aviation into a new era of air traffic management”, says Igor Urbánik, Director of ATM Division (LPS).
