ATS providers must implement a Safety Management System (SMS). This SMS consists of four pillars: Safety policy and objectives, Safety risk management, Safety assurance, Safety promotion.

These pillars encompass safety policies, risk management, performance monitoring, and safety promotion efforts. Success lies in adopting a holistic view that considers both the ATM functional system and organizational elements within the air traffic environment.
