55 years of Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport

Congratulations on reaching the milestone of your 55th anniversary, Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport!

Yesterday was the day: Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport celebrated its big anniversary party in the former airberlin hangar at the airport. We were among the 300 invited guests from politics, the aviation industry, the regional economy and the airport team.

The highlight of the evening was the unveiling of the airport’s new additional name: Heinz Nixdorf. The new name is a reminder of the great services rendered to the region’s economy by the Paderborn-born computer pioneer, whose 100th birthday will be celebrated next year.

Since its establishment in 1969, Paderborn-Lippstadt Airport has experienced consistent growth and development. Nearly six decades ago, visionary leaders founded the airport and acquired agricultural land at the Büren-Ahden site, with the aim of creating a regional airport that offers appealing services. From the initial flights operated with smaller aircraft in 1971 to the runway extension completed in 2009, significant milestones include the opening of the arrivals terminal in 2001 and the Quax hangar in 2011, which provides a distinctive connection to the history of aviation.

As the air navigation service provider, we have been privileged to support this development since 2007, managing an impressive 36,729 flights in 2023 with a commitment to safety. Our air traffic controllers are available around the clock to ensure secure operations for all users of the airspace. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the excellent collaboration with the airport and look forward to a positive future.
